Open your agent from the Agents list and click the Test agent tab on the right edge of the screen. The test drawer floats over the right-hand side of the page — nothing underneath moves or narrows to make room — and it stays open (conversation and all) while you move between the editor’s tabs, so you can tweak a journey with a test conversation still on screen. Anything the drawer happens to cover, such as the Publish changes button, is a click away: close the drawer, click it, and open the drawer again — your chat conversation and any running voice call are exactly as you left them. At the top of the drawer, the Version to test picker chooses which version you’re testing, and two tabs switch between a Chat conversation and a live Voice call in the browser:
  • Your draft (unpublished) — try your changes before anyone else hears them. Only offered while you have unpublished changes, and selected for you by default when you do.
  • v3 · live (the number is whichever version is live) — exactly what your callers get today.
The picker itself shows which version you’re testing. While a call is connected it’s locked — hover over it and it says Hang up to test a different version — so hang up, choose the other version, and start another call.
Testing your draft never changes what callers hear. Real calls to your agent’s phone number always use the published version — publish when you’re ready for callers to hear your changes.

Chat with your agent

The conversation opens with your agent’s greeting — from whichever version the Version to test picker holds; switch the picker and a fresh conversation starts with that version’s greeting. Type a message and press Enter, exactly as a web-chat visitor would. While you’re testing:
  • The refresh button starts a new conversation from the greeting, so you can try a different opening.
  • The red disconnect button ends the conversation where it is.
When a conversation ends — because you disconnected, or because your agent wrapped it up itself — the message box closes with “Session ended — start a new conversation”, and New conversation starts afresh. Leaving the agent editor ends the conversation too, as does switching to a different agent or changing the Version to test picker: come back and you’re starting a fresh one. Closing the drawer is the exception — reopen it and the conversation is exactly where you left it. This is where a chat differs from a voice call, which keeps running as you move around Moneypenny AI. The drawer only ever holds the conversation you’re in, but nothing is thrown away — you can read a finished test chat back later. See Review a test conversation.

Call your agent

Switch to the Voice call tab. The drawer tells you which version you’re about to hear — “This call will use your unpublished draft” or “This call will use the published version” — depending on the Version to test picker. To hear a change before anyone else does, keep Your draft (unpublished) selected: the call then runs your draft, greeting, voice and journeys included. Click Start voice call. Your browser may ask to use your microphone the first time. Then just talk — you hear your agent exactly as callers will, and the call stays connected even if you move around the app. A test call runs in your browser rather than over the phone, so a step that puts the caller through — to the person they ask for, to a person or team you pick, or to one of our receptionists — can’t do that here: your agent says it can’t put you through and offers to take a message or arrange a call back instead. The name lookup that Transfer to the person the caller asks for relies on still runs, since it only looks the person up, so you can check your agent finds the right person even though it can’t put you through. All of those actions behave as normal on a real call to your agent’s number. If your draft isn’t complete enough to run — a half-built journey, say — the call doesn’t start, and a message beginning “Your draft can’t be tested on a call yet” names what needs fixing. Finish the change, or switch the picker to the live version and test that instead. Click Disconnect to hang up. The drawer shows Call ended, and Start another call does just that. While a call is running with the drawer closed, the Test agent tab shows a small green dot so you always know it’s live. Leave the editor mid-call and a small call bar appears at the bottom right of every other page — Open brings you back to the drawer, Disconnect hangs up.

Review a test conversation

The drawer has no way back into a test once it’s over, but the conversation is kept. Read it on the Calls & Messages page, in the same panel a real conversation opens in — summary, details collected and transcript included. A test conversation is listed once it has ended, and it’s left out of the list until you ask for it:
1

Open Calls & Messages

It’s under Activity in the sidebar.
2

Set the timeframe to the period your test falls in

Day covers today.
3

Ask for test conversations under Channel

Open Filter and, under Channel, tick Web call for a call you made from the drawer, or Web chat for a chat you held in it. Your test then appears in the list, and clicking it opens the conversation.
Test conversations never count towards your Analytics figures, whether or not you’ve asked to see them in the list.

Test while you build

The drawer opens from any tab, including Train your agent — so you can try each change the moment your agent has made it, without leaving the conversation. A paused agent can’t be tested — resume it from the Agents list first (see Drafts, publishing and versions).
